Dental Heath Leads To Heart Health
We all know someone who proudly boasts that they have never had a cavity even though they rarely brush or floss their teeth. Yet, even though you are faithful to the floss, you’ve had two or three already. You wonder why you even bother! Truthfully, though a lack of cavities is lucky, people who don’t brush their teeth or floss can end up with a host of other problems, such as gum disease, which can end up putting their heart health in jeopardy. Taking time to care for your teeth is as important to your health as getting enough sleep, excising, and eating well.
Oral Health And Your Heart
Studies show that there is a link between heart disease and poor dental hygiene. This does not mean that everyone who neglects a toothbrush will have a heart attack, nor does it mean that everyone who brushes faithfully is in the clear. But regular flossing, brushing, and preventative dental care can keep you healthier that you think. Researchers have found that high levels of bacteria in the mouth is a good predictor of future heart disease and stroke. Though we don’t know exactly how dental hygiene and heart disease are related, we do know that taking care of your smile is one more step in the fight against the disease.
Just Keep Brushing
Though it can be tempting to miss a brushing session or two when your teeth are in good condition, it’s not wise. Find a good-tasting toothpaste with fluoride, pick out a toothbrush that feels good on your teeth and comfortable in your hand, and go for floss that is easy to use, such as the recently popular floss sticks. You can even find a good mouth rinse that will kill bacteria and reduce plaque, but don’t rely solely on these for your hygiene health. It’s a good addition, but you still have to brush and floss.
