When Doing Everything Properly Still Results In Orthodontic Needs
For most residents in Westlake Village, CA, oral care is a part of the daily routine. The majority of the practices that people have for the care of their teeth do come as a result of habits and behaviors that have been reinforced from early childhood. However, at Community Dental Group, we have also come to find that many of our clients in early adulthood often begin to experience some changes in dentition that come regardless of the healthy practices that are being engaged in.
Human Growth And Development
Many Westlake Village residents do come to realize that as they age, their dental care needs will also change. The reason this can often become most prominent in a person’s early twenties also has to do with the natural physiological development of the body. Skull bones and dentition are still in a process of change, even as late as a person’s early thirties. These fluctuations can be due to genetic differences, but can sometimes result in orthodontic problems.
One of our clients, who was an otherwise healthy male, had a rare condition that caused his lower jaw to continue to grow out of proportion with the rest of the skull. While he had initially noticed some issues with irregular spacing that was developing between his teeth, as the condition progressed, he also experienced intense pain from the pressure that the jaw growth put on both his skull, and on the muscles that connect into the neck.
In diagnosing and coming up with corrective measures for the problem, the client had also commented that he had always been attentive to his oral health, and was confused as to why this was happening. The simple answer is that individuals can be proper in their dental care, and still end up with orthodontic problems that are a result of personal physiology.
Keeping Up Appearances
Ultimately, the client required extensive orthodontic surgery, including some cosmetic measures that provided corrective outcomes. Along with this, the client was also fitted for a mouth guard and a night time retainer in order to maintain the effects of the surgery during healing.
Fortunately, five years after this issue was first addressed, the client is now in comfort and is no longer plagued by the orthodontic problems that first sent him to seek help. While this is always the hoped for outcome, this client also added that the results were far better than he could have ever hoped for, especially when he was in the height of pain. Yet, with continued attention to oral health, including regular check-ups, this client is now able to maintain a glowing smile that is also a pleasure for him to show.
