Learning All About Fillings
Fillings are some of the most common dental procedures patients face, and these are both painless and quick in terms of your dental visit. At Community Dental Group, we want to help our patients to learn all about fillings and just what they can expect when they come in to have on performed! First and foremost, a filling is a procedure that requires little to no recovery time and often won’t even require an over the counter pain reliever, and they can help you to preserve your natural teeth in a long-lasting way.
Fillings are needed when a bacteria begins to eat away at the enamel of a tooth causing a hole in the tooth’s surface. What a filling does is clear away all of the infected area, and fills the spot with a composite resin or amalgam. In molars or teeth not often seen, the amalgam mixture of metals will often be used as the filling material, but front or visible teeth will often receive the composite resin to allow the tooth to continue to look more natural.
When you come in to our office for your filling, you’ll first be numbed to ensure you won’t feel anything associated with the procedure. After this, your dentist will begin drilling the cavity to clear away any decay or bacteria that may be in the area, and this will allow the tooth to remain healthy without decaying further. After this is drilled away, you’ll then have the space filled with the amalgam or composite resin mixture, and your filling will be finished!
Fillings are made to last for life, or for many years at least, so you won’t have to worry about the tooth causing pain or decaying again. At Community Dental Group, we make sure our fillings are made with high quality materials and performed thoroughly and painlessly, so it’s never a procedure to dread by our patients!
