4 Tips To Making Flossing A Habit
Flossing your teeth is one of the most important and neglected parts of dental hygiene. Every time you come and visit us we will comment on flossing, we know it is annoying but it is important. Therefore we figured we could give you some tips for keeping up with a regular and healthy flossing schedule.
1. Trigger Consistency
Regardless of when you chose to do your flossing, morning, night, lunch or all three do it at the same time everyday. A routine is helpful for any type of necessary activity that might not be considered fun. This can be established by choosing something that will trigger your to remember flossing whenever you are supposed to. Maybe you having a tough time remembering to floss before bed, write yourself a note and tape it where your pajamas are. However, the easiest trigger is your toothbrush, grab it and remember that flossing comes before this.
2. Convenience
Keep the floss next to your toothbrush, have extra available for if it runs out, have a separate floss for yourself wherever you might need it. Maybe put one by your bed, that way if you do forget when brushing then you won’t be deterred by having to get up again, it’s right by your bedside. Make it easy on yourself.
3. Give Yourself Credit
When trying to form a good habit, it is important to recognize when you have a been doing a good job. Although reminiscent of an elementary school challenge, making a chart where you mark down the days you remembered to floss is an effective reminder. Even making a little mark on your calendar to show you accomplished flossing for the day will make you feel good about your achievement and want to do it again.
4. Enjoy Flossing
On a very basically natural level, we do not want to do things unless there is some kind of good or enjoyment coming out of it. Focus on how healthy your teeth are feeling and how relieving it is to have them clean. Relating that feeling to the act of flossing is important to remember. Imagine coming to visit us at Community Dental Group and leaving with that feeling of a successful check up and cleaning that didn’t require any extra work, that is a great feeling and healthy smile that should be thought about often.
Flossing your teeth is so important, as we know, to your general oral health and hygiene, making it a habit is the easiest way to keep that pretty, painless smile as you walk about Thousand Oaks or Newbury Park.
