The Ideal Hygiene Routine For Your Teeth
Proper hygiene for your teeth can limit your needed trips to the dentist, and the visits you do have will be far more pleasant if your teeth are kept clean and healthy! Good hygiene for your teeth will typically take a little more than the customary twice per day brushing sessions, but incorporating it into your routine is well worth it for the fresh, clean, and healthy smile you’ll have as a result! At Community Dental Group, we want to help you to craft and keep up with a great oral hygiene routine, and we are going to do this by outlining the 3 steps to oral hygiene that you cannot miss:
- Brushing – Brushing is undoubtedly important, and it’s something that should be done twice per day every day for at least two minutes! Actually, we recommend brushing for two minutes after each meal, but we know that this can be difficult if you’re juggling a busy schedule, so a minimum of twice per day is often perfectly sufficient. When you brush, make sure to spend around 30 seconds on each quadrant of the mouth, as this will help to best remove all plaque and debris.
- Flossing – Flossing is important, and many people tend to underestimate the power of the floss. When you floss, make sure to floss in between each tooth and to “pop” the floss in order to remove that tough stuck on food and plaque in between teeth. It’s a good idea to be gentle with the flossing as well, since it may irritate the gums if you insist upon flossing too hard. When you floss, also make sure to glide the floss at somewhat of an angle across the surface of the tooth as well, so that you can remove all plaque that could be hiding on the tooth’s surface by the gum line.
- Mouthwash – Mouthwash is an optional step, but one that we at Community Dental Group highly recommend. What mouthwash can do is kill all of the excess bacteria that could be hiding in your mouth leftover after brushing and flossing, and really give you a fresh clean finish to your overall oral hygiene routine. There are mouthwashes for all types of oral hygiene concerns, so the sky is the limit as to what type of mouthwash you wish to use.
With a daily routine of brushing, flossing, and washing, we at Community Dental Group know that you’ll be happier with your teeth and more enthused about seeing your dentist during your yearly checkups!
