Most Common Oral Surgery Procedures

Most Common Oral Surgery ProceduresOur dentists typically recommend oral surgery procedures when non-surgical treatments are ineffective for treating certain dental conditions and problems. In most cases, the surgical procedures discussed below focus on the different components of your jaw bone structure and your oral cavity (i.e. mouth).

Some of the more common surgeries include:

  • correction of jaw related problems
  • removing impacted teeth
  • root canals
  • tooth extraction

As a result, we have compiled a list of the 5 most common oral surgery procedures that we perform at Community Dental Group which include:

  • Apicectomy – typically performed whenever an infection cannot be treated with a root canal. In this procedure, the tooth’s root tip is removed in order to treat the infection.
  • Frenectomy – improves the tongue’s and upper lip’s function by removing the thin tissue band found below the midsection of the lower lip and under the tongue. This tissue is known as the frenulum or frenum. It is typically performed when this tissue is located in the wrong place or is too tight.
  • Gum/periodontal surgeries – when non-surgical procedures cannot treat gum (periodontal) problems, we have no choice but to recommend a surgical procedure for treatment. Some of the more common procedures include bone or soft gum tissue grafts, gum tissue regenerative surgery, and pocket reduction surgery.
  • Removal of wisdom teeth – one of the more common oral surgery procedures we perform is the removal of impacted wisdom teeth. Impacted wisdom teeth are characterized by extreme decay, discomfort, and other painful dental issues.
  • Teeth extractions – when there are no non-surgical alternatives or options for saving a tooth that has been severely damaged, extracting it becomes the proper course of action.

If you have recently been diagnosed with a condition that requires oral surgery, we encourage you to schedule an appointment for an evaluation and examination. We will be happy to provide you with the results and provide you with a second opinion.
